The Shire is thrilled to unveil our new Events Trailer, showcasing incredible artworks created by 18 talented students from Dalyellup Primary School, guided by the creative vision of artist Tahlia Bennell.
These vibrant designs celebrate Dalyellup's rich Aboriginal cultural heritage and connection to country. Dolphins, inspired by the school logo and cultural stories, take centre stage, symbolizing
community, tradition, and the connection to land and sea.
Tahlia's artistic statement is-
"Within the artwork I have added 18 dolphins with the kid's individual designs, in a cluster herding fish. Dolphins would be used as a source for my grandparents when they were fishing when traveling the coastline in the warmer months. They would slap on the water to attract the dolphins and the dolphins would herd the fish towards them and my grandparents would catch the fish.
The line work behind the dolphins represents the song lines and connection to saltwater country. The other details are based on Maambakoort (saltwater) coral and the connection we’ve had to country over 60,000 years as coral is considered one of the oldest living skeletal organisms within the ocean. I contained it within my artworks as it represents a rich history culture and heritage to wardandi boodja"
