The Shire of Capel is thrilled to announce the official opening of the Capel Regional Equestrian Park (CREP), a world-class, multi-use equestrian facility spanning 100 acres. Designed to host local, state, and international-level events, the park supports a wide range of disciplines, including Pony Club, Adult Riders, Polocrosse, Campdraft, and Horse Power (formerly Riding for the Disabled).
The upgraded facilities include new clubrooms, meeting spaces, kitchens, and ablution blocks, replacing structures that dated back to the 1970s and were no longer fit for purpose. These upgrades were made possible through substantial funding contributions, including:
- A $250,000 grant from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
- $734,601 through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI).
- The Shire of Capel’s contributed toward design, planning, and community development support.
Shire President Doug Kitchen celebrated the milestone, stating: "The Capel Regional Equestrian Park is a fantastic asset to our district. It not only enhances the quality of services for our horse-loving community but also attracts visitors and events, delivering significant social and economic benefits to the District. This project is a testament to the dedication of our equestrian volunteers and club members."
Construction was completed in November 2024, ensuring the park remains a vibrant hub for equestrian sports. Each year, CREP hosts six major events, welcoming members aged 4 to 84. The facility fosters a thriving culture of volunteerism and leadership, benefiting the entire community.
This redevelopment strengthens CREP’s position as a premier equestrian venue, ready to support future champions and grassroots riders in a world-class environment.
