Capel

Capel

Nestled on the Capel River is the cute little town of Capel with a quirky sense of humour. Where else in Australia would they send you to hunt for the troll under the bridge?  A walk path near the historic Capel Tavern takes you on a mysterious adventure. The creative journey continues down the main street with walls of murals reflecting the stories of the town, which was established in the 1890s.

People are a little horse-mad in Capel. Rightly so, as the home of 1999 Melbourne Cup winner Rogan Josh. Caravan and free campers will love the awesome facilities, including a waste dump spot and 24-hour rest area. Capel was originally called Coolingnup. The name was changed to Capel in 1899.
