The Shire of Capel is headed by Chief Executive Officer Ian McCabe and divided into three areas of Strategy and Economy, Corporate and Community, and Infrastructure and Development.

Chief Executive Officer
Director of Strategy and Economy
Ian’s responsibilities as CEO include: advising Council; managing the day to day operations of the local government; liaising with the President; implementing Council’s Decisions; and ensuring the local government complies with state and federal laws. Functionally, the CEO works to improve services for the community; assist Council in their role; and continually improve the business performance of the local government. Activity areas include: Development of Strategic Plans, Economic Development, Governance and Risk, Corporate and Strategic Communications, and Council and Government Relations.
Ian is an accountant, holds several academic qualifications including MBA; Fellow of CPA Australia; Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors; and has 40 years’ business experience including senior commercial analyst with Australia Post; government advisor and consultant; and prior roles as a not for profit and local government CEO.
Director of Community and Corporate
Susan has held senior general and financial management roles across both private and public sectors for over 20 years and joined the Shire of Capel in 2014.
Susan holds an Honours degree in Economics, is a qualified Management Accountant and Certified Practising Accountant (CPA).
Susan manages a range of functions across the organisation including finance, information technology, customer service, records management, governance, human resources, community development, events and libraries.
Director of Infrastructure and Development
Jason has held senior executive and operational roles within the public sector for over 20 years and joined the Shire of Capel in 2014.
Jason is a qualified civil engineer with post-graduate qualifications in business, project management and environmental science.
Jason manages a diverse portfolio with responsibility for the infrastructure and development functions of the organisation including planning, building, health, waste management, asset management, parks, gardens and reserves, engineering, strategic projects, ranger services and emergency management.
