The preparation of food from home is generally limited to low risk food such as cakes, biscuits, jams, pickles. Additionally the preparation only occurs occasionally and is limited in nature.
Should you wish to prepare high risk foods (food containing any meat, dairy, egg, processed foods) then you will need to make available separate kitchen facilities and develop a food safety plan outlining how the risks from the preparation of the food will be managed.
Please find below further steps that will need to be taken to prepare and sell food from home:
- A Food Business notification and registration will be required. Food Act 2008 – Notification-Registration Form.
- Preparation of food from home must be in accordance with Chapter 3 Food Safety Standards of the Food Standards Code.
