If you want to make a difference in your community and have a say in local decision-making, stand for election as a local government Councillor.
There are many reasons why people stand for Council: The sense of satisfaction you will gain from serving your community, increased knowledge about the operations of all levels of government, improved confidence in public speaking and the chance to play an important role in the changes occurring within your community.
Local Government Elections are held on the third Saturday in October every two years, generally for 50% of the members of Council, with members elected for a four year term. (The next election is due in October 2019.)
Information about becoming a Councillor is available on the Department for Local Government & Communities website.
