On Wednesday, 22 November 2017 Shire staff reported laboratory confirmed asbestos cement material (ACM) found along the road reserve adjacent the Shire Depot at Lot 9002 Range Road.
The affected area was immediately closed for public access and asbestos warning signs installed. Adjacent residents were notified via letter drop the following day. The contamination is assessed as a low risk, however the Shire has fenced the area and will restrict persons from entering until clean-up of the area is completed.
The purpose of this notice is to advise that the Shire has engaged a licenced asbestos removal contractor to remove all the ACM as soon as practical. The Department of Health has been consulted and the contractor will follow the relevant guidance note “IDENTIFICATION, ASSESSMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF ASBESTOS CONTAMINATION IN REGIONAL PUBLIC AREAS” as published by the Department of Health specifically for use in situations such as this.
