The aerial mosquito control program will begin throughout the Shire this week and will be carried out as weather conditions permit.
The Shire’s health team identified that seasonal rainfall has caused widespread mosquito breeding and an emergence of adult mosquitos in some coastal areas within the Shire of Capel.
To reduce the chance of being bitten by mosquitoes avoid being outside around dawn and dusk, wear loose fitting clothing and use repellent.
Around the home ensure insect screens are installed and mosquito proof and use residual sprays containing bifenthrin to provide up to six weeks protection.
It is important to ensure infants and children are adequately protected against mosquito bites, preferably with suitable clothing, bed nets or other forms of insect screening.
